Dante and Beatrice
Dante and Beatrice is a painting that puts a dark spin on Dante’s encounter with his beloved Beatrice, after surviving his journey through the circles of Hell. In this rendition, Beatrice is unresponsive to him, while the distraught Dante cries over her indifference. This painting marks a stylistic shift away from a more mechanical construction of the entire figure and focuses entirely on the headdress.
