Bemoaning the Loss of Limbo

Bemoaning the loss of Limbo is part of a series on the turn of the century vintage Valentines. Cupid holds a leaden arrow, a symbol of the loss of love, and removes any peace of mind before the arrival of love or its departure.  A prominent NY art dealer encouraged this series, suggesting I paint a series of highly erotic and explicit-looking vintage valentines. However, I was far less graphic than was suggested. The image of a cherub was the first to steer me toward symbolism in the mid-’90s, merging mechanisms with the human condition.
